After a pair of main events like we had in Daytona, all we can say is…wow.
When the gate dropped for the Supercross main event, it didn’t take long for things to start happening. A little too much front brake heading into the first turn of the grass-covered start area was all it took for Jame’s Stewart’s front end to wash out, which started a chain reaction crash that took out Stewart ( San Manuel / Yamaha / JSE), Michael Byrne (Rockstar Makita Suzuki) and Andrew Short (Honda Red Bull Racing). But it also opened the door for heroics by others, including Jason Lawrence, and Chad Reed. Lawrence led 16 laps of the 20-lap main event, and by winning this year’s main event, Reed exacted some measure of revenge on Daytona after being robbed of a win last year when his bike expired with two turns to go. Stewart was able to get back to seventh spot, but lost ground in the title chase. Reed now has an 11-point advantage.
In Lites action, Christophe Pourcel hunted down Martin Davalos (Muscle Milk KTM) for his third win of the season, and after a crash by his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate, Austin Stroupe, Pourcel now has a 15-point lead in the Lites East standings.
